Lower Cispus April 8-9

The lower Cispus River is a scenic gem of a river found in south west Washington. There is a troubled history with the PUD that drown Cowlitz Falls with a reservoir at the end of the 18 mile run but some progress has been made with take out access. The PUD has a locked gate on the access road to the take out and they have restrictive policies regarding opening it. The good news is that they have agreed to open the gate on April 8th and 9th. The Washington Kayak Club and the Peninsula Dirtbag Kayaker Wannabes will be converging on the local campground, Tower Rock U-Fish, and we would like to see some WRRR members show up as well. The run can be divided with the upstream half consisting of scenic class 2 and the lower half having great surf waves and a few class 3 rapids. Clear water, mossy trees, and Tower Rock are some of the scenic attractions of the river.

Camping will be at Tower Rock U-Fish RV park. They have a couple of cabins and a nice trailer you can rent. Otherwise it is a large grassy field with fire pits and picnic tables. Individuals are responsible for paying for their own camping, there is no WRRR budget for this outing. There are no shelters so wings and tarps are recommended. It is a perfect place for Dutch Oven cooking. Speaking of Dutch Ovens, there will be a dessert potluck Saturday evening at the campground. For more info on camping see http://towerrockrv.com . They have been contacted and know we are coming. A camp site is $22 plus $7 for extra vehicles. If you want to clump, the fee is cheaper. If you want your privacy then expect to pay the full price. The campground is CASH or CHECK only . No credit cards.

Date April 8-9
Camping at Tower Rock U-Fish RV Park
Class 2 & 3
Great surfing for IK's but great for paddle rafts and cat boats too
