  • Standing Committee Reports
    1. River Watch – Rebecca Post.   A Thursday kayaker (Greg)that Rebecca boats with has started the Nisqually River Cleanup.    April 21st.   An amazing coincidence that the Rower’s Progression is this day as well!         Other:   American Whitewater reached out to general membership to seek volunteers for localized help.   Some members signed up .   Rebecca doing Nisqually and Cispus.  Brenan working on Nooksack, Sky and Suiattle.   Several other members have joined up as well.
    2. Safety and Education – Rebecca Post:  Wet planet, Rebecca heard $225 and class is $275.   To cover the balance Club will pay total of $1,926.   Board will vote on this later down the road.   Some discussion of the specific training label, dates, 11 out of 12 possible people are currently signed up.    Date for safety May 12th/13th 2 day class.    This makes it a $150 subsidy vs $100.   See voting below.       Satellite class:   No new info.     First aid class:   No new info, Mary not present, Joe will check with Mary.   Steve has a contact for first aid as well and will check.   Guess is 10-15.    Time frame whenever it makes sense.   Brenan mentioned that if nothing this year it would be nice to get the future years setup for 10-20 people annually (or whatever makes sense for 1 instructor class size)

    4. Membership – David Elliott, See membership tallies above, nothing new to report

    2. Flip Practice planning (2018-04-22)   Nancy reports that is usually Jim Johnson’s dept.   Budget is $200 for food and people.   Brenan and Joe tagteam Jim.  Jim will reserve this week.   Brenan and Joe will follow up and tap/hit him with firewood as needed.
    3. Green River Cleanup planning (2018-05-05)  Rebecca has found trash!   Nancy said there was lots of trash on the trails.   Brenan reports that Green Clean is on the way!   KP camp is reserved, picnic shelter 3 reserved, bbq is at KP park after the cleanup, New ranger is in charge of KP (Jeff) has been very helpful to the GRCU committee, and we will need volunteers.   Most board members will volunteer for registration, lead /sweep boat, etc.   Always nice to have help from general membership.
    4. Misc River Ops – No misc River ops.   Discussion of Toutle Trip, David will ask questions about the Toutle on facebook.   Excellent work River ops!!!
  • Old Business
    1. Status of safety class planning:   See below for voting
  • New Business
    1. Budget items to discuss:    (Current in bank account:   $6719.79 as of 2-13-18.   There is $2,100 liability at the end of February and membership money will be flowing in as events occur)
      1. 2017 item – Paid $143.91 for domain (wrrr.org) for 9 years
      2. Safety class subsidy:   (Room for 1 more person)
        1. Originally proposed 2017 (and paid) – $1284 (incl tax) for $100 per person subsidy
        2. New proposal – $1926 (incl tax but less the $1,284 already paid) for $150 per person subsidy vs $100 subsidy.   Motion passes
        3. Reason: Mistake in getting original quote – actual cost was $275 per person, reported as $225
      3. Local Index kayaker passes away on the NF Snoqualmie (Ernies Canyon).   Sad news some discussion about Rafting / Kayaking and legacy’s
      4. Prizes:
        1. Proposal – $2400 total, $1000 for Wenatchee, $1400 for Poker Run:  Brenan 2nd this motion, motion carries full support and passed
        2. Reason: We made a total of $2478 in 2017, $1700 was Poker Run.   David mentions splitting it up to prevent a spiral, all agree makes sense.
      5. Poker Run BBQ:
        1. Proposal – $150   Rebecca seconds motion, motion carries no discussion
        2. Reason: We have been doing this without a budget for a few years
      6. American Whitewater Membership:
        1. Proposal – $100   Steve asked what that covers, David mentions affiliate membership for WRRR.    Magazine / membership can be a raffle prize? Rebecca 2nd, motion passes unopposed
        2. Reason: Was $75, but it went up in 2018
      7. Tieton toilets:
        1. Proposal – $550 (was $500).   Some discussion, Joe asks if we should team up with Mike to eliminate the 14 day rule?   Brenan is ok going up against them forever!    Possiblity of using River Booty, but it would go through Blue Sky, Rebecca worries about the alteration of permits by others.   Motion Passes for budget.  Rebecca will follow up with the rangers early this year
        2. Reason: Price went up in 2017  ($535) for 5 toilets, but we get reimbursed from OWA and usually Dave.    Dumpsters we share with Mike no new budget
      8. Brenan and David discuss general account balances for new board members benefit.  We get prize money from wenatchee and skagit.   The prize income from previous year generally sets the budget for the current year with the addition of any donated items.   Membership carries the general income / expenses.  We usually have $4,000-7,000 in the bank depending on expenses.  Most expenses for 2018 are paid (camping)
      9. Military Parade at Flip Practice:   Motion does not carry, by a close margin, some discussion
        1. Proposal – $4,000,000
        2. Reason: Presidential decree
    2. Status for getting donations of prizes.    Brenan and Shawn are working on prizes this year.   Camstraps.com is one to contact, Brenan mentions we usually start after green river cleanup due to manpower so any help before then is appreciated.

  3. Review agenda
  4. 153 members (158 members last month)

    3. Communications – Shawn Cadigan
    4. Membership – David Elliott.   Joe asked about Postcards.  Should we do that this year?  David will check budget regarding postcards.   Joe will look into making them.
    5. Programs/Volunteers – Nancy Douty
    6. WRRR Wear – Rebecca Post
  6. Events
    1. Flip Practice roundup (2017-04-23)   Flip practice went well.   There was tons of rain, but we went in the lake anyways!    Rafts, Cats, IK’s, hardshells all practicing their upside down breathing 🙂   Jim BBQ’d up a storm!!!  Event came in under budget
    2. Shangri La Preclean:   Lots of work was done!   Cleaned up trees that had fallen at river, cleared path to river, swept and cleared all roads, raked all gravel, pressure washed all over the place (2/3rds of BB court), Moved the picnic tables, etc.    Lots of people showed up even though we didn’t have the campground for the cleanup.   We probably could have spent another day there, but ran out of time.   Most the crew put in hours both days.   Thanks for the effort guys!
    3. Green River Cleanup roundup (2017-05-06)  The cleanup went well!   We had tons of water 3,000+cfs!!!    We filled up the parks truck and also a flatbed truck.   Flatbed truck dumped Monday .71 tons.   Brenan will hear from the rangers how much trash their truck had.   He will also count up volunteers and send to KP.    Repo and Brenan ran sweep and helped pickup some carnage on the way down.   Sounds like all day boat spacing was great.   Brenan ran into a crew of about 12 boats that were spaced pretty close.  Luckily flow was high, at low water under 1600 cfs, boats likely would have been stuck right of the nozzle….    Moving the BBQ to KP was a huge help to the already light volunteers!   We will plan to do that in future years.   $56 was collected in non member donations.  As it turns out, Flaming geyser was somewhat flooded.  We will take that for high flows though!   Dump Voucher was never received despite multiple attempts to King County Solid Waste.    Several members have contacts with dept of transportation and other non profit cleanup events.   Green River Cleanup Committee will look around next year at other options.   Green River Cleanup Committee plans to use Kanasket Palmer next year for camping and base operations.
    4. Wenatchee Rendezvous status (2017-06-01).    River ops will order porti-potties 1-2 weeks prior.   Jared and Brenan working on Prize Procurement
    5. Sauk Overnighter status (2017-06-24).  Brenan has updated the link and posted all info.  People are signing up.    Non wrrr members to pay $5 if they participate in breakfast.
    6. White Salmon Retreat planning (2017-07-15).  Camping paid for, no other WRRR duties except to have a great weekend!!!
    7. Misc River Ops
  7. Old Business
    1. None
  8. New Business
    1. Shangri-La for next year:   Jason (Shangri-la) expected more or different work done.    Brenan noted that we didn’t finish last year either and several people helped finish pressure washing during the green clean following weekend in 2016.  We had a good amount of people show up even though we didn’t get Shangri La for the cleanup.  Recommend to continue using KP as group camp and keep the BBQ at KP.   Recommend still doing the pre-clean but as day trips and mapping trash.
    2. Review Waterlog ads and sponsors.   Good time to start renewing and working on contacting new sponsors.   Discuss adding buttons / link to wrrr.org website to various outdoor recreational.   Brenan made a motion to supply helmet supplier with free T-shirt.  Motion carries, Shawn will get T shirt size.   Matt the supplier (predator helmets) qualifies as a sponsor as he deeply discounted the helmets for us!
  9. Waterlog articles needed by 5/20
    1. NOTE: Make sure Brian verifies receipt of articles
    2. VP River Ops – Sauk Overnighter full article
    3. VP River Ops – White Salmon full article
    4. VP River Ops – Poker Run teaser
  10. Announcements and good of the order.   Joe – Suggests WRRR take advantage of the adopt a highway program.  Joe will look into this.   Great idea!!!
  11. Good of the order:   SF Stilly Tuesday nights after work!  Going great.   Went for the 6th time last night.  Even Kim made it!    MM Thursday nights are going strong.  IF the MM is too high alternate rivers are run.   What a great club, every week people are boating 5 days!   (Tuesday, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun)

Green River Cleanup this weekend!!! -BBQ update at KP now!

Due to light volunteer staff this year, WRRR will be hosting the BBQ at the group camp at KANASKET PALMER state park.  WRRR WILL provide hamburgers and fixings (thank you Mary K.) and WRRR is requesting that members bring a pot luck dish to share with others. Salads and hot items like beans are requested.   ($5 suggested donation for non wrrr members)

So there will NOT be a large WRRR shindig at Flaming Geyser.  Instead it will be at the group camp at Kanasket Palmer.  So plan on an efficient shuttle from FG back to KP for all the fun.

There will still be the DO dessert cook off competition saturday evening 830pm at the KP group camp.

See you all there!!!    If you can help with logistics this year please let us know!   We are so thankful for all the time and effort you all put into these events!!!!     See ya soon!

May 2016 Board Meeting Minutes

  1. Call to order @ 7:05 David, Brennan, Jared, Rebecca, Nancy, Matt, Adam, Jason, Joe
  2. Reviewed and approved minutes
  3. Reviewed agenda
  4. 146 members (140 members last month)
  5. Standing Committee Reports
    1. River Watch – Rebecca is going to a meeting in Olympia on May 23rd with the Lewis County PUD to discuss Cispus River access (gate opening & maintenance, road closures, logjam on lake). Rebecca is also going to a meeting in Eatonville on May 17th to talk about rafters’ needs in a small community — Eatonville wants to know how to attract tourism from the boating community. Brennan took WA State Parks Commissioner down the Green and they were happy. They asked what we need from State Parks to continue successful cleanups (e.g. should we ask for extended bathroom hours, anything else?)
    2. Safety and Education – Jared Cook: Sent email to Wet Planet asking to move the class to June 19th, BUT we need at least 8 people signed up. So, will send one final email asking about interest on that date instead.
    3. Communications – David Elliott: Has been working on software for sending out auto-notices, and will be able to get rid of Access database and start using the new software.
    4. Membership – Joe Koncikowski: Four new members. Joe started designing the postcard to send to past members, and will finish it soon.
    5. Programs/Volunteers – Nancy Douty: Flip Practice had good attendance.
    6. WRRR Wear – Rebecca Post: Rebecca is going to place an order, including hats and hoodies. Tie-die cotton T-shirts seems to be our most popular.
  6. Old Business
    1. Safety class status: See Safety & Education above
    2. Waterlog schedule change for 2017 is set in motion. Editions will be released at beginning of each month, will have a late December/early January issue.
    3. We have 500 stickers. Approved motion to give every member gets 2 free stickers (need to pick up at a club event). Will sell for $0.50 a piece thereafter (they cost $0.49 a piece).
    4.  Flip Practice roundup: Went well.
    5. Green River Cleanup roundup: Lower than normal turnout (approx. 70 people), due to low flows. Picked up 1,200 pounds of trash. 21 people registered electronically, and there were 26 physical signatures — it is likely that some folks did not sign up. The BBQ went well, but there was a lot of food left due to low turnout.
    6. Wenatchee Rendezvous status: Brennan could use the help of coordinators to help folks get settled into camp, help structure the trips (trip leaders), organize the potluck and prizes. Brennan will set up signs leading to camp, directions are in the Waterlog.
    7. Sauk Overnighter status: Flows should be good to run both the upper and middle Sauk; club will provide group breakfast.
    8. White Salmon status: Need some volunteer trip leaders; campground is reserved.
    9. Poker Run status: Jason will take charge of cards again this year; just need two more volunteers so far to run stations. Brennan will run BBQ at station #3; will have potluck, camping, prizes.

    11. Membership letter: Went out to past members via email.
